Local area municipalities issue a variety of licenses and permits as required by different by-laws, regulations or policies to operate a business.
Durham Region's eight local area municipalities each have comprehensive zoning by-laws. Zoning by-laws control the use of land and are often comprised of land use restrictions (permitted uses) and technical provisions such as setbacks and lot size requirements.
